Airlines to offer check in and boarding with Mobile/Cell Phones
23 December 2007
Airlines worldwide will begin to offer check in and boarding of their planes with nothing but a cell
phone and a government issued photo I.D. Currently Southwest, Delta, Air Canada, Northwest, American,
and Air Canada offer some form of check in with a mobile phone. I tested Delta's system the other day
and was pleasantly surprised.
I Checked in with my Blackberry and was able to use the bar code displayed
on it to print a duplicate boarding pass at the check in kiosk at the airport. It doesn't sound
like a huge time saver, but not having to get out your wallet, find your credit card and get it to scan
is a bit of a plus. At the moment only
Continental is testing a service in the United States that allows you to get through security without
a paper copy of your boarding pass. This service is currently only available to passengers
departing Houston Intercontinental.
There have been rumors that by 2010 check in with a mobile phone or pda will be available nationwide
For your traveling pleasure links to all of the airline mobile websites have been posted
